Abstract

Carburetting.-In a carburettor comprising an annular space containing inclined metal plates down which the liquid flows, elongated metal ribbons extend continuously from end to end of the carburettor, and the liquid is caused to traverse both sides of the ribbons. The form shown comprises concentric casings 1, 5 in the space 21, between which is mounted a series of strips 8 bent into zigzag, spiral, or twisted form and connected to supporting-rings 9 and to a conical member 7, to which the hydrocarbon is supplied from a pipe 20 and cup 15. Air enters at an inlet 14 and passes through holes 11 and up through the space 21, the mixture leaving at an outlet 19; or the inlet and outlet may be reversed. A pressure-equalizing pipe 22 leading to the hydrocarbon chamber may be provided. A false bottom 2 is provided to form a space for the collection and removal of surplus hydrocarbon. The carburettor may be warmed by circulating hot fluid through the casing 5.
