Abstract
10,440. Stell, R. R. April 28. Cables.-The insulated core or cores C of a cable are surrounded by an inner covering B of vulcanized bitumen compound and an outer covering A of hard rubber, which is preferably vulcanized also. In the case of a cable having several cores, the bitumen compound fills the interstices between the cores. The bitumen compound consists mainly of refined bitumen and elastic pitch, to which may be added, for example, small proportions of gutta-percha, oil, wax, and sulphur.
