Abstract

9425. Fairweather, W., [Singer Manufacturing Co.]. April 16. Sewing-machines; folding-attachments.-Box pleats are made by means of two under side-folders 15, 16 suspended by a bracket 11 from the machine arm, and an expanding upper central folder formed of two fingers 42, 43. The fingers are supported and their distance apart regulated by two levers 24, 30, and are held from longitudinal move ment by two anchor links 34, 35. The levers 24, 30 are carried by pivots which extend below the base-plate and have arms 26, 28 connected by a link 27. The levers are adjusted by a lever arm 31 having a split head 33 by which it is clamped to the edge of the base-plate. The link 27 may be coupled to the arm 26 at either of two points, so that the angular relation of the levers 24, 30 may be changed from one which ensures that the fingers 42, 43 remain parallel, to one which causes the fingers to diverge when in their expanded position.
