Locking nuts.-A spring pawl for locking a nut consists of a flat blade 6, with a tapered or enlarged end 7 fitting into a similarly shaped slot 2 in the bore of the nut, but not in contact with the back of the slot. A projection 8 on the blade engages ratchet-shaped grooves 11 in the bolt. To release the pawl, it is drawn by means of its projecting end towards the back of the slot 2, which may be tapered to provide greater clearance. The grooves 11 may be replaced by a number of staggered notches,
