7987. Pio, F. R. March 31,1913, [Convention date]. Parachutes.-A parachute f is arranged around the fuselage of an aeroplane. The flexible steel ribs g normally lie in grooves in the fuselage and are retained by a slidable ring a. The cords h for supporting the parachute in its open position are connected to a ring c on the fuselage. The front end of the fuselage carrying the seat slides like a drawer into the front part of the aeroplane carrying the wings, motor, and propeller, and is detachably secured by bolts. When an accident occurs, the fuselage and the seat can be detached from the front part of the aeroplane so that the aviator can safely descend by means of the parachute.
