Abstract
7966. Finlay, R. P. March 30. Combined fluid - actuated and mechanical gears; linkage gears; slide valves, cylindrical and piston; expansion valves.-The valve-chest is provided with an auxiliary valve 1 which acts as an expansion valve, and a main valve 8 provided with inlet chambers and passages 6, 7, 9, 10 corresponding to main inlet ports 2, 3 in the valve 1. The valve and valve seat are constructed as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The auxiliary passages 11, 12, 13, 14 supply steam to the ends of the main valve chamber, and the auxiliary passage 13, 14 controlled by the port 15 in the valve 1 controls the auxiliary exhaust. The auxiliary valve is operated by the pistonrod in the manner shown in Fig. 5. Its position is adjusted by adjusting the link 25, and its travel by adjusting the block 29 by means of setscrews. The flat valve 1 may be replaced by a cylindrical valve.
