Abstract

6524. Pintsch Akt.-Ges., J. March 15, 1913, [Convention date]. Buoys.-An anchored buoy for supporting optical or acoustic signalling-appliances comprises an aggregate body the preponderant volume of which is submerged, while its floating-capacity is mainly afforded by small partly emerged tubular members, such as b, Fig. 2. The members b are arranged circularly, or in the form of a star &c., around the central axis of the structure, and their water-line areas provide a relatively -large moment of inertia so as to increase the stability. Submerged weights, such as c, are also radially arranged and distanced from the central axis. The various elements may be connected by pipes or rods, and a central main body a may be provided, which may be solid or hollow to serve as a gas-holder. The centre of gravity of the buoy S should be below its centre of displacement D.
