Abstract

Transformers.-A compensating-transformer has shunt and series coils, and a movable armature on the core is mechanically connected with a movable armature on the core of a coil in series with the series coil. The core D of the transformer, Fig. 1, has three limbs A, B, C, carrying a series coil N and a shunt coil S, and has a movable armature G mechanically connected with a movable armature H of the core K of a coil M in series with the series coil N. As the load increases, the armature H turns and causes the armature G to move into the position shown in dotted lines, so that the flux induced by the shunt coil opposes the flux produced by the series coil and causes the induced electromotive force to vary with the load. A spring L holds the armature H in position. In a modification, the limb C carries both a shunt and a series coil. For polyphase systems, three single-phase compound transformers, such as are shown in Fig. 1, may be used, and are connected electrically, each primary coil being connected at one end to each incoming line, and at the other being connected in star; the secondary coils are likewise connected on one side in star, and on the other with the outgoing lines. As shown in Fig. 4, this arrangement is combined magnetically, the three cores, such as K, and the three transformers, such as D, being combined. The primary and secondary coils are, as before, connected on one side in star and on the other to the incoming and outgoing lines respectively. The armatures H, G are mechanically connected in any known manner. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also an arrangement wherein the core K and series coil M are not connected directly to a compound transformer but to a resistance in a motor circuit, the motor being provided with a centrifugal regulator connected mechanically with the transformer armature G. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
