Machines with types on sides or faces of sliding bars; hammer-impression arrangements. - Relates to the printing-mechanism of calculating-machines provided with sliding type - bars 126 carrying movable types 130 impressed by spring-urged hammers 128, which are retained in inoperative position by bell-crank levers 129 carrying releasing- rods 132 actuated by a trigger 159. According to the invention, spring-pressed pins 149 are swung forward to engage the releasing-rods 132 after the type-bars 126 are set, to return any misplaced releasing-rods to normal position before printing, and to return the operated releasing-rods after printing. The releasing-rods are provided with projections 132<c> engaging recesses 131 in the bars 126, so that when the bars 126 are set, the corresponding releasing-rods are swung out to bring the projections 132<a> thereon into position to be actuated by the trigger 159. The pins 149 are mounted on a cross-bar carried by levers 142 connected to toggle-levers 145, 146 actuated by a pin 150 on a lever 151 carried by a shaft 157. When the lever 151 is operated by the pull of a rod 156 controlled by the operating-handle, the pin 150 first straightens the toggle 145, 146 to engage the pins 149 with the releasing-rods, and then strikes a member 158 loosely mounted on the shaft 157 to operate the trigger 159. Upon the return of the rod 156, a member 164 on the shaft 157 re-engages the hammers with the levers 129 through levers 167, 168, 171.
