Bloclcs and the like acting on drums; band or coil.- In a brake comprising blocks 2 pivoted at 3 and pressed into contact with a drum by an encircling chain 7 connected at one end to an operating-lever 9, the other end of the chain is connected to the end of the adjacent block 2 by a rod 15 and a lever 12, 14, which is pivoted at 13 and arranged to exert a pull on the block 2 in the direction of rotation of the drum when the chain is tightened. The blocks 2 are released by springs 6, 6<1>.
