Abstract
4305. Lidy, G. Feb. 19. Rackets. - In a metal racket of the type in in which the tension of the strings can be regulated, the frame and handle consist of a metal tube first bent to the required shape and afterwards split longitudinally. At the shoulders, the tube is left unsplit. The handle is strengthened by metal plates, and the frame and handle are covered with wood, cork, or india-rubber. The longitudinal strings are passed round grooved rollers 7, Fig. 6, placed in the frame, and round rollers 19, Fig. 10, carried by a wedge 18. The wedge is connected by a rod 19<1> and loop 22 to a screw 24, whereby the stringing may be tensioned. At the sides of the racket, the strings pass round grooved bearing- pieces 10, Fig. 7, attached to the frame. The ends of the strings are clamped to the frame by means of plates.
