3455. Morrison, W. Feb. 10. Clutches, friction.-In a dynamo-electric clutch for use on automobiles driven by variable-speed engines and for other purposes and more particularly of the kind described in Specification 27,617/13, [Class 35, Dynamoelectric generators &c.], frictional clutching devices which do not function as current-collectors are brought into action by centrifugal force to assist the electro-magnetic clutching action with the object of reducing the slip between the members of the clutch. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate one arrangement in which the driving shaft A carries the field-magnet D<1> and the driven shaft B carries the armature F<1> of a dynamo-electric clutch. The casing C<1> of the clutch is extended to cover a centrifugal friction clutch, which comprises spring-pressed pivoted arms 31 carrying adjustable friction-blocks 32 adapted to rub at a sufficiently high speed against the inner surface of the casing C'; the arms 31 may be made of spring metal.
