Abstract
2091. Rheinische Metallwaaren-und Maschinenfabrik. March 10, 1913, [Convention date]. Ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to automatic breech-opening devices of the kind having a curved guide for actuating the breech mechanism and stressing the closing-spring. According to the invention, the guide is prolonged by a yielding extension, which gives a jerk to the mechanism at the end of opening movement and ensures the ejection of the fired cartridge case. A pin e, Fig. 1, on a crank b on the breech-operating spindle a is spring-pressed downwards and, during the recoil of the gun, slides in a rearwardly-rising straight groove g in the curved guide f, shown in plan in Fig. 6. On the return movement of the gun, the pin strikes the curved actuating-surface h of the guide, and rotates the crank b and spindle a to effect the opening of the breech. The curve h is prolonged by a spring-pressed projection i, which opposes a sufficient resistance to the pin e to ensure extraction of the cartridge case, before it yields. In a modification, shown in Fig. 8, the yielding projection i has a forward prolongation k.
