Abstract

1483. Cornall, R. Jan. 4. Fastening.-The breeching-straps or traces, or both, are connected to stirrup-shaped brackets pivoted on bolts passing through the shafts of the vehicle; the brackets can turn in the direction of pull. Fig. 1 shows a shaft A with two brackets B, B', one for the breeching-strap and the other for the trace. The brackets are pivoted on bolts b secured by nuts b<1> and stayed by metal strips b<3> fastened by bolts b<4>. The straps are looped and secured by buckles &c. around the parts b<5> of the brackets, or around rollers which may encircle the parts b'. According to the Provisional Specification, shackles or links may connect the brackets with their straps so as to provide an additional swivelling movement; a single piece of wire cranked and pivoted to its bracket may be used, or may be replaced by two separate links connected by a pin or roller.
