Abstract

1107. Shanks, J. Jan. 15. Actuating; diaphragm valves.-A chamber 4 containing a diaphragm valve 3 is fitted to the waste-pipe 5 of a bath or the like. The chamber has an extension 10 which communicates with the upper part of the bath by a tube 16. When the bath is filled, the water rises at the same time in the pipe 10 and, if the flow continues, overflows into an inner pipe 9 passing through the valve 3 and sets up siphonic action. The suction thereby produced raises the valve. When the water level reaches the tube 16, air enters and stops the action. The valve may be operated manually by means of a handle 14. In a modification, the handle is housed in a separate tube and the connexion with the tube 9 admits of a lost motion.
