It passes through a short guide-tube d, which is fastened to the grating a screwed by its periphery into the disc b. In a modification, apertures are made in the lower part of the tube d through which the waste flows when the tube e is raised. In another modification, the tube e is enclosed by a second which acts as a siphon, when started by an initial discharge. A spring valve may be fitted on the crown of the siphon to admit air.
