Leakage, stopping.-Leak-stoppers for ships consist of a wad, bundle or sheet of kapok, which may be coated with tar or paint, or strengthened by aluminium wire &c. In one method of using kapok, a sheet g of the material is let down outside the ship, being weighted at the lower end so as to cover the leak as shown. The sheet g may be enclosed in a waterproof envelope. In another method, the sheet of kapok is used in conjunction with aT-bar having a pivoted head passed through the opening and a washer and nut to press the kapok to the ship's side.
