Abstract

Contacts.-A spring contact is formed of a closely-coiled helix A of hard-drawn copper or phosphor-bronze wire, preferably of circular section, secured to a channelled metal block B, Figs. 1 and 5, or mounted within grooves in a block B, Fig. 6, so that by engagement with the horns E, the convolutions are given a permanent angular set, as shown in Fig. 1, which enables the convolutions to be compressed readily and, during this action, to slide laterally upon the contact-maker F and contact-block B. The contact-maker may be grooved as shown in Fig. 5 to lock upon the convolutions. The application to a plug switch is shown in Fig. 9, in which one or more annular helices with permanent set are engaged by the switching- member F, which may engage the outsides of the helices instead of the insides as shown.
