[Cognate Application, 8213/L4.] Frame construction; changing length of wheel base; shafts.-The central portion of each longitudinal member of the frame of a perambulator, mail-cart, &c. comprises two tubes, one disposed above and spaced from the other. The upper tube b, which may be integral with the handle frame a, is connected to and spaced from the lower tube d by brackets e, f, which may carry the wheel axles and may be adjustable to vary the length of the wheel base or of the frame or of both ; or the brackets e, f may be permanently or detachably secured to the tubes b, d without provision for adjustment Fig. G shows a construction in which the parts are detachable but not adjustable, the tube b being locked in a bass in the bracket e by a bolt g fitting into a recess in the tube b, or by a lug k upon the bracket e engaging the end of the tube b. Rest-bars.-The rear end of each tube d may be split to receive a leg i, which is clamped in position by the tightening of the lower bolt h of the bracket f.
