Spindle - driving apparatus.-A tension pulley for the spindle-driving bands of ring, flyer, or mule spinning or twisting frames a n d winding- frames comprises a conical or partly conical a n d partly cylindrical cup F<1>, a central spindle F<2>, and a ring F<3>, whicb, alone or in combination with the conical part of the cup F<1>, serves as a guide for the driving-band or is provided with a guiding- surface for a flat band. The pulley or, when heavier bands are to be tensioned, a cast - iron pulley is carried in a socket G, which is held in a lubricant - reservoir in a block H<2> integral with or pivoted at H<3> on a carriage H slidably mounted on a bracket I. The carriage H can move freely along the bracket I under the influence of a weighted band or cord J<1>, and in order to reduce friction it bears on a pulley J over which the weighted band passes, and, if desired, an additional roller at the inner end of the bracket I. A roller may be mounted on the carriage to afford a lateral bearing or support. The extreme movements of the carriage are limited by the contact of a part H<11> with a stop I<1> and the pulley J. The carriage may be provided with a shield or cover to prevent dust, fluff, &c., from accumulating on the bracket I and the guiderollers. The arrangement is described as applied to the slack sides of bands which drive one or two spindles on one or on each side of the tin roller, and to loops formed by the spindle bands of a mule as they come from and return to the tin roller,
