Abstract
28,845. Webster, W. H. Dec. 15. Pontoon rafts.-Reversible rafts or life-boats of the kind comprising an outer shell of water-tight compartments enclosing a central well are constructed so that the floor consists of several buoyant water-tight tanks which may be adjusted vertically according to which side of the raft floats upwards after launching. The raft comprises water-tight compartments A surrounding a number of wells formed by divisions I. The floors of these wells consist of adjustable tanks D moved by centrallydisposed screws E so that the well is uppermost whichever side floats upwards. Paddle-wheels K are fitted to the tanks in the central well and move with it. The paddle-wheels may be fitted with rubber tyres to facilitate launching.
