Abstract
28,473. Cook, T., and Durrant, G. Dec. 10. Registering webs. - Apparatus for guiding fabrics into stentering and like machines, of the class employing positively - driven elements at each selvedge as described in Specification 19,300/12, comprises a pair of rollers, one positively driven and the other free to rotate when moved to grip the fabric passing between them and mounted in a cradle centrally pivoted to one end of a beam lever, the other end of which is operated and controlled by cam and lever mechanism from a feeler as described in the above - mentioned Specification. The roll a is inclined to the path of the fabric and is driven by a skew gear c and gear d, f, g from a driven shaft h. The roller b is carried, parallel to the roller a, in a cradle i pivoted at j to a beam k, which is pivoted on an adjustable frame 10 and provided with a bowl k<1> contacting a pivoted cam-member v. A lever m pivoted at n is momentarily oscillated by a lug g<1> on the wheel g, and this lever oscillates a pivoted spring-controlled lever s to slide a rotary cam t along the shaft h. The cam t rotates between bowls 4, t<2> on the cam-members v and acts, when held in displaced position, to swing the member so that the inclined part 3 acts on the bowl k<1> and lifts the roller b to press the fabric against the roller a. This condition arises when the fabric passes away from a feeler which, as described in the abovementioned Specification, then descends and locks a bell-crank, which through a link holds the lever m and consequently the cam t in displaced position. A bowl 5 prevents the cam v from lifting. The lower roller b may be driven and the upper roller a mounted in a cradle. According to the Provisional Specification, one or both rollers of each pair may be replaced by a disk.
