Abstract

28,156. Continuity Joint and Tube Co., and Jackson, J. H. Dec. 6. Couplings, disconnectible; overlap joints with inner or outer pipe or sleeve gripped by packing; rod couplings.- Cylindrical members are coupled together by means giving a grip between eccentric surfaces brought into play with the rotary motion of a coupling - device which also travels axially to exert pressure upon a packing, and in this means, the axial lock is constituted by one or more continuous helical surfaces or screw-threads adapted to permit the coupling-device to be screwed before the member to be secured is placed in position. The tube a and fitting b are coupled together by the sleeve e, which is eccentrically screwed to engage the eccentric screw d, and the eccentric washer h is compressed between the fitting b and the coupling-sleeve e. To obtain a uniform bore, the fitting eccentric to the screw-thread may be turned to form a socket as described in Specification 28,929/12.
