Pitot-tube apparatus. - In a combined Pitot and static-pressure tube, the static-pressure tube B is curved in stream-line form down to its junction with the leading portion of the Pitot tube A; the static-pressure holes B' can then be made close to the leading end of the tube. Both the connexions are taken through a washer C which is inserted in the rear end of the tube B. The tubes may be straight instead of curved as shown. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the leading end of the tube A is of large diameter, and a disk E is inserted to act as an arrester of rain etc.; an additional arrester may be placed inside the tube A. The vertical portion of the jacket B may be made ovoid in crosssection so as to diminish the resistance to the flow of air &c.
