R÷ntgen-ray tubes; vacuum tubes.-The pressure in a Rontgen-ray or other vacuum tube is kept constant by enclosing in the tube, or in a side tube connected to it, one or more reversibly dissociable solid or liquid substances, which are kept at a constant temperature. The hardness of the tube may be adjusted by varying the temperature. In the form shown, a piece of chalk A has an electric heating-coil of constantan wire B connected to platinum leading-in wires D. Other suitable substances are barium peroxide, magnesium sulphate, and hydrated copper sulphate. Specification 10,878/08 is referred to.
