Railway-carriage doors and the like, fastening automatically.-A shaft a, rotated from the railwav &c. vehicle axle, has a pinion b meshing with a toothed nut c loosely mounted on a screwed shaft d, which also carries pinions e, e, either of which is set in motion by the movement of the nut c to the right or left. A third pinion f meshes with the pinions c, e and causes the rotation of a shaft g in one direction, whatever may be the direction of motion of the train. The shaft g is steeply threaded and carries a screwed sleeve h with a flange k engaging freely, as by ball bearings, in a groove in the head i of the spring-controlled tube l connected to the bolting-mechanism, which is thus operated by the longitudinal movement of the sleeve, when the speed of the shaft g rises above a certain amount.
