156,972. Ransom, G. H., and Motor Equipments, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1919. Pivoting-adjustments.-In worm-and-wheel gear for motor vehicle wind-screens, of the type wherein the adjustment of the thread of the worm relatively to the teeth of the wheel is effected by tilting the axis of the worm in the plane of the wheel, the inner end of the worm shaft 1 is ball ended or is recessed conically to receive a ball 7 partly embedded in a slide 8 which is adapted to be moved vertically along the side of the casing 5 by means of a conical adjusting-screw 9 secured in the casing 5 by means of a lock-nut 10. Slight lateral movement of the slide 8 on the screw 9 prevents jamming due to irregularities in the mounting of the wheel 3. A segment only of the worm wheel is used, and this is secured to a rod 4 which fits in the casing 5 to form the hinge-rod of the screen and is formed integrally with two rod portions 4a and 4b adapted to fit tightly in the tubes 4<c> and 4d engaging a casing 4<e>, 4f and secured to the screen framing 16. A conicallybored bland 13 may accommodate the outer end of the shaft 1.
