Photomechanical printing-surfaces.-Relates to the production of printing-surfaces in which the text and the illustrations to be reproduced are simultaneously etched. A photo-transparency is produced of the illustrations, and the text is printed on a very thin transparent film in opaque ink. The illustration transparency and the text film are combined in register as a printing-plate, and printed on to a sensitized carbon tissue. Before developing the carbon tissue, a screen a is also separately printed thereon, but with a thin transparent film c interposed between the screen and the text portion already printed on the carbon film b, in order thereby to obtain some printing under the opaque portions a<1> of the screen by the oblique light, as shown. The carbon film is then developed and transferred to the printing-surface, which is then prepared and etched in the usual manner.
