Presses; stretchers.-In a combined press and stretcher, the pressure is applied by cam-levers F, Fig. 6, mounted in arms E pivoted to racks D<2>, which are pivoted to metal lugs D<1> and are pressed inwards and downwards towards the top board by springs B. When the levers F are operated to exert pressure, spring-pressed pawls G in the arms E take into the racks and allow the cam-levers to become effective in conjunction with the pressure exerted by the springs; but on swinging the levers right back, the pawls are pressed out of engagement with the racks. This enables the whole of the pressing-mechanism to be swung completely out of the way. Stretching is effected by means of an eccentric roller N, Fig. 5, acting in conjunction with a board M, both being mounted on arms L pivoted to the baseboard. The racks D<2> and their pivot lugs D<1> are housed in lateral slots in the baseboard, the base and side of each slot being formed by turning-over metal stiffening-straps C.
