Combined hand driving and steering mechanism.- In band propelling and steering mechanism for invalid chairs or carriages, a front wheel, pivotally mounted at C in the framing for steering purposes, is provided with a forked tiller E which extends upwards and rearwards to a position in front of the occupant and is fitted near the upper end of its limbs with a rotatable cross-shaft H furnished with band-cranks K and with a toothed wheel for transmitting the drive to the front road wheel by chain or bevel gearing. An augmented steering effect is obtained by connecting the rear wheels of the vehicle to the front fork B, or the axle D, or the tiller E, or parts moving therewith, by a link N or by wires or members in tension. The carriage is steered by swinging over the tiller to one side or the other ; or, during free-wheeling, a handle O may be used. According to the Provisional Specification, the vehicle may have two front steering and driving wheels mounted on a live axle supported by a centrally pivoted bridge-piece.
