Fire-bars and grates.-Threaded on bars 3 are specially-shaped grate members, each of which comprises a body part 1 formed with a slot 2 to engage the bar and relatively narrow wings or extensions 5. The wings 5 on adjacent bars intermesh and the slots are deeper than the bars 3, so that the members are capable of a relative vertical movement which results in clearing the air spaces between the wings 5. The wings 5 taper off towards the bottom and have a sharp lower edge 7. Their upper surfaces are horizontal and grooved, and their side faces corrugated. Specially-shaped members as shown are provided at the ends of the bars 3. The wings are preferably set obliquely as shown, but they may be of T, V, S, or other suitable shape.
