Description
C. COLEATTJ. FlRE GRM-s. FILED OcT. 2D. 1920.
Patented Dec. 26,
FERE GRATIS.
Application filed October' 20, 1920. Serial No. 418
To aZZ 'az/'710m it 'maly camera:
le it known that l, h'lnno C' sa ,',ie'ct of the King of Italy, residiru 'lilan, in the l'ingdom' of Italy, have in- Yented certain new i and useful improveinents in and Relating to Fire Grates, of 'which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to improvenients the fire grate disclosed in iny prior application for patent filed October 28, 1919, Serial No. 333,969, and has for its object to provide a special form of grate bar having' a trapezoidal cross-section for the pnrpose of securingv a more efhcient draft in a furnace and for obtainini; a dnrable and simple connection of the bars with frame and grate,
lVith the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accoml'ianying drawing and more particnlarly pointed out in the appended claims.
Refei'ring` to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan View of three of niy improved bars in assernbled relation;
F 2 is a front View of the sanie.,
Pig. 3 is an end View of one of the bars. ig. Ll; is a horizontal sectional View taken on line 4-4z of Fig. 2.
Fig. o is a Vertical sectional view or one of th i gra-te bars taken on line 5--5 o: Fin: 1.
Figi. G is a rear View of one end portion of one of the ;rr-ate bars.
ln the drawing, 2 designates the grate bars, each of which in 'the present instance is of substantially V-shape in plan and provided at its ends with outwardly extending lugs 3 designed to rest on a grate frame (not shown). rlThe lugs are provided .on the undersides with recesses 3 into which the upper edges of said fraine may project; Each end of each of the grate hars is also provided with an outwardly extending lug z, which as shown in Pig. is arranged mainly below the lug 3. rl`he ends of each bar are also provided with forward y extending' thin lugs having a horizontally disposed upper edge t', a Vertical edge t? and an inclined edge '153.
in assembling the grate bars on a grate frame, the lugs 8 will rest on the upper edge of the frame and the lugs z will interlock with the lugs t as shown in Figure sur- he adgacent to thJ adpicent lug t ,of the lugs t will ligfure the inner shown in Figure 3, one line suflices to show practically both edges. T he lugs az and are offset relatively to one another as shown `in Fignre 6.
.wing to this construction the grate bars will be interlocked together, and an intermediate grate bar can only be reinoved by taking out all of the grate bars in front of the same.
Lis best shown in Figure 5, each bar is of trapezoidal cross-section.
rfhe central portion of each bar is pro- Vided with a wedge shaped lug 8 and a corresponding` groove 8'. Each of the lugs 8 tapers towards its lower end, as shown in Fig. 2 so that it cooperates with Jthe groove' 8' of an adjacent bar to direct air passing` through the gra-te outwardly or away from the longitnd` el center of the gra'te as shown by the arrows f/ in .Figure l.
Further, the front face of each grate bar is provided near its upper end with inwardly entending, surfaces 3' which function to direct air passing`` through the grate towards the longitudinal center of the grate as shown by the arrows w.
From the foregoing, it is believed 'that the construction, operation and arrani'ement of parts may be readily understood those skilled in the art, and it is apparent 'that changes may be made in the details disclosed without departing froin the spirit of the invention as expressed in the claiins.
j Having' now particularly described the nature of niy invention and the way in which the same should be perforined, i fclairnzp 1. ln a grate, a fire bar of substantially V-shape in plan, the opposite legs of said bar being; inclined upwardly froin the lower to the upper edge of the bar' and being of trapezoidal cross-section, means at the outer ends of said le's for in'terlockin` the v o c bar with ad]acent bas, and surfaces proof said legs for di- Vided at the outer ends recting air currents toward the central portion of the bar.
2. A grate of the kind defined by claiin "i in which the central .portion of the bar is provide on one side With a groove and. en lts opposlte slde wlth a, projectmg r1h said groove being ada-pted to cooperar're w'rh `the rib o' anadja'cent section 'to guide vzur pessng through Jche grete, an he' first men'rone. rb being; adapted e cooperat-e with the groove of 2m adjacerrt bar to guide air paseng 'through the grate.
