Abstract

[Cognate Application, 9041/14.] Wheel - guards and obstruction - removers.- In order to prevent limbs of persons from passing under side guards, a vertical plunger is released by contact of the limb with a trip device. The plunger c, in a casing d in front of the hind wheel b, may be depressed by a spring c when a detent f is withdrawn due to the tilting of a trip h pivoted at h'. The trip may be rocked directly by contact with an obstacle, or through the pin l when the bottom of the side guard is raised in slots a<4>. A spring i keeps the lower part of the trip raised when the plunger has been released. The plunger may be depressed by compressed air when a valve p, Fig. 3, is opened through the engagement of the cam h<3> on the trip h with the valve stem p<1>, the air being supplied from a cylinder m. The plunger may further be released by a trip which is pivoted to the side guard so as to move in an horizontal plane, and may consist of three metal bars connected by a vertical piece.
