Combustion products, returning to furnaces.- In a boiler or other furnace, the combustion products are withdrawn from behind the firebridge and led through a pipe exposed to the full heat of the furnace, or another furnace, before being discharged over the burning fuel. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, steam from the pipe E is delivered at the open end of the pipe C, which is partly arranged above the fire, and the gases are forced into the chamber formed behind the door plate D. The gases escape over the front of the fire through per-. forations in the plate d'. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the steam-pipe E<2> is arranged within the pipe C and the gases escape through perforations c<2>. The gases may be forced into the pipe C by a fan, which .may withdraw the gases from an external flue.
