Abstract

21,977. Newton, J. M. Sept. 30. Cleaning fruit and vegetables. - Apparatus for grading and cleaning fruit and vegetables comprises an inclined endless travelling band A on to which the fruit &c. is delivered from a hopper R. Rotating rollers E, F, G are situated at graduated distances above the band and serve to deliver fruit &c. which cannot pass under them into trays T, U, V, the smallest fruit &c. rolling down the band into a tray S. The rollers E, F, G may have soft spiral flanges of compressed felt or bristles, and the band A may be of brushy material to clean the fruit &c. Stationary or revolving brushes may also be provided to clean the fruit on its way to the trays.
