Abstract

21,637. Herbert, A., and Vernon, P. V. Sept. 25. Turning.-The turret rotating and locking mechanism of a lathe is actuated by two gear-wheels carried by the turret slide. The gear-wheels F, E, operated by a common gear D loose on a constantlyrunning cross - shaft on the Slide, carry crank-pins or cams to effect the operations on the turret. Fast on the shaft is a clutch C, which is actuated for disengagement from the common' gear D by a pin or the like on the gear E, this gear also having a pin E<2> to actuate the index bolt Z. The other gear F carries a pin F<2> adapted to engage radial slots in a plate attached to the turret to rotate it, and this pin, or another, is adapted to actuate the turret - clamping mechanism, and if necessary also the mechanism for clamping the index bolt as described in Specification 21,639/13.
