Abstract

120,407. Newman, P. A. Sept. 26, 1917. Attachments for screwing and tapping.-In a holder for dies or taps, of the kind having a rotatable die-carrying portion b normally held by a fixed member a<1>, through positive clutch parts such as studs c<1>, d<1>, which are disengaged and allow the die to turn on completion of the thread, by the relative sliding movement between the parts a<1>, b', a ball or like clutch is provided for preventing rotation of the part b when the rotation of the work is reversed to remove the die. The balls e in tangential holes can engage the recesses f only when the part b is in its outward position. The ball b<5> working in the groove b<4> prevents the separation of the parts a<1>, b.
