Transparent parts forviewingcontents.-A can, canister, or other receptacle for containing boot polish &c. has permanently secured in its side, lid, or end a fluid-tight or air-tight window consisting of a disk a, Fig. 1, of transparent material, the aperture in which the disk is secured being surrounded by a flange d formed wholly or partly at right-angles to the plane of the aperture. The transparent disk may be enclosed in a metal rim b, and the edges of the disk are provided with packing- material n. Figs. 3 ... 8, and 11 show modifications' of the shape of the flange d and of the manner of securing the disk a. A perforated guard-plate, such as m, Fig. 10, which may replace the retaining-ring j, Fig. 4, may be provided to protect the disk a. The can &c. may be covered by a printed label c, Fig. 1, having a hole f opposite the window, the hole f being closed, by a removable cardboard disk g, which may have its outer face flush with the label c.
