Abstract

19,012. Hillyard, G. I., Hicks, F. G., and Simon, S. Aug. 21. [Cognate Application, 23,427/13.] Vacuum cleaning-apparatus.-A cleaner of the type in which the suction device is actuated by the motion over the floor is provided with a powerframe whereby the suction device can be positively actuated when the cleaner is stationary. The frame consists of a casing 1 open at the top and mounted on wheels 2. A hole in one side wall 3 is connected by a flexible tube 4 to a chamber 5, which is adjustable on bearers 8 so that the slot 7 in the top of the chamber always registers with the nozzle 21 of the cleaner when the cleaner is placed in position. The wheels 21<x> of the cleaner rest on a roller 14 which is driven by an electric or other motor 17, or, the axle of the cleaner is provided with a spur-wheel adapted to engage with another positively-driven spur-wheel. The nozzle hose 12 is connected to the hole in the wall 3. The cleaner is held in position by adjustable blocks 19, which may be held in removable frames of a size to suit the particular cleaners used. The adjustable chamber 5 may be provided with a downwardly-projecting rigid nozzle for cleaning floors &c. In a modification, the chamber 5 can be dispensed with when the cleaner is provided with detachable nozzle fittings for use either on the floor or for cleaning furniture, draperies, &c. Springs may be used to hold the cleaner in the frame.
