Abstract

17,732. Plauson, H. Aug. 1. Carbon.-Graphite in colloid-like form is obtained from coke by bringing finely-powdered coke into colloidal solution in water or other non-electrolytic liquid, such as oil, kerosene, ligroin, &c. in known manner, or as described in Specifications 17,729/13, [Class 50, Fuel, Manufacture of], and 17,731/13. The graphite can be separated from the liquid by known means, if desired. The coke powder may be subjected to a preliminary purification with acids, followed by neutralization with alkalis and washing. The plasticity of the product may be improved by adding powdered clay or the like to the coke, so as to obtain a colloidal mixture of graphite and clay &c. Small amounts of natural colloids, aldehydes, tannin, tungstic or chromic acid, &c. may also be added to facilitate the process. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 3198/98, 7776/07, and 27,312/07.
