16,650. Knight, R. C. July 21. Davits; chocks.-Ship's boats are handled by a single davit a which works on an horizontal pivot b bridging the space between two deck brackets c<2>. The davit and boat supported from a fall g tend to turn outboard, and the luffing operation is controlled by a topping lift d. Chocks j carried by the davit comprise a pair of splayed struts supporting a bulb - iron keel-rest l. The outboard movement of the davit is limited by stops e', e<2>, the stop e<1> beiogremovable to allow the davit to move fully outboard in the event of the vessel having a list.
