Coke ovens.-In a coke oven with regenerators for both gas and air, four conduits are provided beneath each oven, and are so connected with the regenerators and the heating- walls that gas and air are supplied through the conduits beneath alternate ovens, while the products of combustion from the heating-walls escape through the conduits beneath the remainder. The regenerators g are constructed as described in Specification 10,253/13, and are arranged in two groups, which serve alternately for the heating of the gas and air, and the escape of the products of combustion. All the regenerators are connected by dampercontrolled passages to collecting and distributing flues e, f, and alternate regenerators are connected in addition to gas-supply conduits a, b. From the regenerators, damper-controlled conduits h, i lead to pairs of flues k, l or m, n situated beneath the soles of the ovens and communicating with the flues of the heating- walls. In operation, gas and air are supplied through the regenerators on say the left-hand side of the battery as shown in Fig. 1, and are distributed by the pairs of flues k, l and m, n to alternate vertical flues or combustion chambers of the two heating-walls of the corresponding ovens. The products of combustion pass down through the remaining vertical flues to the conduits beneath the next oven, whence they are led through the whole of the regenerators at the right-hand side of the battery.
