Abstract

Polishing and waxing machines.-In machines for cleaning, waxing, polishing, and abrading floors, of the kind in which a rotary interchangeable tool is operated by a vertical motor, the motor is carried by overhanging arms pivoted on the axle of the transporting-wheels of the appliance and is connected by chains &c. to the transporting-handle, which also is pivoted on the axle of the transporting-wheels. Fig. 3 shows one arrangement in which the motor is pivotally supported on two arms 4 and is connected by chains 34 to the handle 6. In a modified form, the motor is rigidly connected to arms projecting horizontally from the axle 2 and the chains are secured to the upper end of the motor casing. The motor is geared to a disk 17 to which interchangeable tools are secured by three fastenings 19. Three such tools are shown in addition to the brush 20, one in Fig. 6 comprising metal-wool held by spikes in the hollowed portion of a disk 21, another in Fig. 7 comprising blocks of wax 25 held by washers and movable caps 27 in recesses in a disk 24, while the third comprises a pad of sheepskin or felt secured to a disk by means of press buttons similar to glove-fasteners. In another modified form of apparatus, a single motor drives two cleaning-tools mounted side by side and rotating in opposite directions. The two cleaning-tools may be driven by separate motors in some cases. The leads for conducting the current to the motor pass through the hollow handle 6 which is provided at its upper end with an arm carrying a switch at one end and a rubber buffer at the other end.
