Abstract
14,938. Gallagher, F. E., and Mork, H. S. July 15, 1912, [Convention date]. Glucose.-Fermentable sugars are produced from cellulose &c. by hydrolysis with chlorine. followed, it may be, by sulphuric acid &c. The chlorine may be produced by adding, for example, hydrochloric and nitric acids. The hydrolysis takes place under steam pressure. The chlorine is eliminated subsequently by sodium thiosulphate &c. Reference is made to a process in which chlorine is introduced during digestion with sulphurous acid.
