Abstract

14,541. Reynolds, A. June 24. Regenerative fittings.-In a gas-fired reversible regenerative furnace of the Siemens type, to prevent the formation of explosive mixtures in the chimney flues, the air and gas reversing valves are arranged in separate flues communicating with the atmosphere. The invention may be applied to furnaces in which one set only of air and gas valves is employed, and to furnaces in which there are a number of air and gas reversing valves. As shown in Fig. 1, the air reversing valve 2 is arranged in a flue 4, provided with an air regulating valve 3 and connected by flues 5 and 6 to the shaft 7 of the twin chimney 8. The gas reversing valve 9 is arranged in the gas supply conduit 11, provided with a regulating-valve 10 and connected by flues 14, 15 and 16 to the shaft 17 of the twin chimney 8. The chimney 8 may be quite short, and a separate suction fan may be mounted on each of the shafts 7, 17.
