Abstract

13,800. Wanderer - Werke vorm. Winklhofer & Jaenicke Akt. - Ges., and Buschmann, T. E. June 14. Platen r o t a t i o n for condensed-record work. The means, such as knobs on the platen-axle, for rotating the platen backwards and forwards is arranged so that the backward rotation of the platen is arrested by adjustable stopmechanism which is automatically uncoupled during the f o r w a r d rotation and thus permits the platen to be given an unlimited forward rotation. (1) In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a disk 8 secured to the platen-axle 5 is formed with peripheral notches to receive a ball 8<a> adapted to arrest the backward rotation of the platen by engaging a stop 6 on a disk 7. The disk 8 is arranged in a loose cap 10 which is held stationary by a pin 3 and is provided with a screw 16 or a spring-pin adapted to engage adjusting-holes in the disk 7. The platen is normally disconnected from the condensed-record device, the ball 8<a> being located in a recess 15 in the cap and being held therein by the bevelled end 12 of a finger-lever 13. In condensed-record work, the finger-lever is lifted to the position shown in Fig. 2 and a spring then forces the ball into one of the notches in the disk 8. The platen is then rotated backward and forward by means of the terminal knobs 21 on the platen-axle. The backward rotation is limited by the ball engaging the adjustable stop 6. The forward rotation is unlimited, the ball being disconnected from the disk 8 by engaging a projection 15<a> at the mouth of the recess 15. When performing ordinary work the finger-lever 13 is depressed, the bevelled end 12 engaging the ball and forcing it into the recess. (2) In the arrangement shown in Figs. 4 and 6, the coupling consists of a pawl and ratchet-wheel, and an interconnexion with the feed-rollers, described below, is provided. The ratchet-wheel 28 is secured to the platen-axle 4 and engages a pawl 29 pivoted on a loose cap 27 which is formed with a stop-nose 35 adapted to engage an adjustable stop 46. This stop is secured to a toothed wheel 30, which is loose on the platenaxle and is held in adjusted position by a locking- finger 34 formed on a sleeve 38. The sleeve has a pin-and-slot connexion 44 with a shaft 24 which carries the usual lever 2 for releasing the feedrollers 22. The sleeve can be retracted against the pressure of a spring 39 to release the wheel 30. In condensed-record work, the platen is rotated backward by the terminal knobs 21, the ratchetwheel carrying the cap therewith by means of the pawl, and the movement of the platen being limited by the engagement of the stop-members 35, 46. When the platen is again rotated forwards, the ratchet-wheel is carried forwards by the pressure of a spring 31 on the pawl, until the stop-nose 35 engages a stop-finger 36 on the sleeve 38, the cap 27 being then arrested and the stopmechanism being uncoupled. In ordinary work the pawl is disengaged by means of a lever 33 carried by a turn-button 32. Sheet-feeding arrangements.-The release-lever 2, Figs. 4 and 6, can be moved to the vertical position to release the feed-rollers 22 only when the stopfinger 36, referred to above, is opposite a recess 37 in the cap 27, that is, when the cap is in the normal forward position shown in Fig. 6. Further, if the operator neglects to restore the feed-rollers after withdrawing the invoice, the periphery of the cap engages the stop-finger 36 at the beginning of the backward rotation and automatically restcres the feed-rollers.
