Abstract

13,407. Lee, E. June 10. Locking-apparatus.-A lock for cycles, having a rotatable and longitudinally-movable locking- bolt, is clipped or clamped in position upon the frame member to which it is applied by the rotation of a part by means of the detachable key used to operate the locking - bolt. As shown in Fig. 2, the bolt a, held in engagement with the steering - stem h by a pin a<2> bearing upon the cut - away end of the sleeve b, may be turned by a key till the pin comes opposite a slot b<2>, whereupon the bolt is shot back to inoperative position by a spring c. In this position, the pin is in engagement with the slot. so that rotation of the bolt rotates the sleeve and unscrews it from a plate g, which has ears or lugs engaging the slotted ends of the clamping-strap f. Instead of the sleeve being of reduced internal diameter at its inner end, it may be fitted with a slotted bush, which may have a skid or projection to serve the purpose of the cut-away end of the sleeve. The strap f may be replaced by jaws closed about the frame member by contact with the lock casing when the plate g is operated; or the sleeve, provided with an enlarged inner end fitting inside the cycle head, may screw into the casing, which is shaped to bear upon the outside of the head to clamp the lock in position. The screw-threaded member for effecting the clamping may, moreover, be entirely separate from the locking- device, but it is operated by the key of the lock. The bolt may also have two pins to engage two slots in the sleeve.
