Abstract

13,235. Carter, J. T. June 7, 1912, [Convention date]. Vices.-A treadle-operated vice for harnessmakers and leather workers has upright opposing jaw-members B, C, formed of I-section iron, of which one is permanently fixed to the frame, or adjustably secured by means of holes a<2>, a<3> and pins b, b<1>, and the other is intermediately pivoted at c and is provided, at its lower end, with inclined projections c<1> which are engaged by a pin d<1> projecting from the treadle lever D which is locked in adjusted position by a side pin d<3> engaging a toothed rack a<5>. The jaw faces E are provided with parallel lugs e engaging on either side of the web of the I-section, and are fixed by a taper pin e<1> passing through alining holes in the lugs and web. In a modification, the jaws are formed with dovetail recesses adapted to receive dovetail plates g<1>, Fig. 6, to which the clamping - faces G are pivotally connected.
