Abstract

11,308. Wiseman, J. Sept. 12. Winding - machines; tension arrangements; driving - arrangements. -Cops or pirns are wound upon bare spindles by means of a faller wire d connected by arms to a shaft e oscillated by a bracket s, which is reciprocated by a heart cam f along a copping rail q, the position of which is adjusted to build the cop by means of a doubleinclined plate u, which is moved by screw and ratchet gearing w operated from the cam shaft. The spindles are driven from a shaft k, which, during the descent of the faller wire, is disconnected from its driving - clutch and braked so that a binding-layer is wound. The cam shaft is driven by belt gearing from a pulley h connected with the driving - pulley, which is loose on the shaft k and drives it through pins k<6> engaging with holes in a disk g secured to the driving- pulley and with similar holes in a disk k<4> fast on the shaft. When the faller wire reaches the top of the cop chase, a cam y on the cam shaft operates a slide z<1> which moves an arm z<3> to withdraw the clutch pins k<6> and engage a brake cone k<8> with a fixed cone k<9>, thus stopping the shaft k, which is connected by gearing with the tin rollers, until the faller wire has moved to the bottom of the chase, whereupon the clutch pins are again engaged and the brake released. In forming the cops, a few layers of yarn are first wound on the spindles and the machine stopped. The faller wire is then lowered the top roller is rotated by hand, and paste is applied to the wound yarn so that, when the paste is dry, a firm support is pro vided for the body of the cop. Before reaching the fallers, the yarn passes over a tension rod carried by balanced levers.
