10,919. British Thomson-Houston Go., and Taylor, H. W. May 8. Windings, more particularly for large alternating-current generators, consist of a number of superposed conductors or bars arranged in deep slots and connected together in parallel, and the end connexions are made so that there is no tendency for equalizing- currents to flow through the parts of the windings. Fig. 1 shows a developed winding having four bars a, b, c, d arranged vertically above one another in each slot A, B, &c. and connected to form two parallel winding-portions between the ends a', b'. The numerals 1, 2, 3, 4 are used to indicate the vertical positions of the bars in each slot, and, on tracing out the paths of the winding-portions, it will be seen that the bars of each parallel winding-portion occupy a different position in each succeeding slot and that all the slot-positions are passed twice between the ends a<1>, b<1>. A winding having three parallel portions and six bars in each slot is also described. Conductors.-According to the Provisional Specification, conductors may be caused to cross one another within the slots to prevent equalizing-currents.
